How to Have a Healthier Thanksgiving


Thanksgiving is a time for reflection and appreciating all that we have in our lives. It is also a day centered on parades, family, football, and food. Many of us find ourselves eating a few too many helpings of sweet potato casserole and hitting the couch for a nap.  If that sounds like you, and your Thanksgiving routine leaves you feeling tired and groggy, we suggest making a few small changes to your routine for a healthier holiday.  

Don't Skip Breakfast to Save Room for Dinner: Studies have shown that breakfast is still the most important meal of the day. Bur when you've got a big dinner planned, it might seem silly to eat a large breakfast. Making health conscious breakfast choices will actually help you keep the portions smaller on your dinner plate. It doesn't have to be a large breakfast, but something like a veggie omelet or fruit with Greek yogurt will get your day started off right. 

Avoid the Table-to-Couch Move: Rather than shuffle from the dinner table straight to the couch, set yourself up to feel good and go for a walk after dinner. Bring your family members along, even if it is for just 10 minutes to help boost your energy. 

Healthy Alternatives: Many of our favorite Thanksgiving dishes are not the healthiest. There are a few substitutions you can make for a healthier plate. Instead of mashed potatoes, give mashed cauliflower a try. Or, by making your dishes from scratch and using fresh fruits and vegetables, you will eliminate the need for processed goods.
