No More Heel Pain with Orthotics

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common athletic injuries and can have a crippling effect on an athlete’s performance. It is a condition caused by inflammation of the thick tissue along the bottom of the foot, connecting the heel to the toes, and it causes heel pains making it hard to walk, much less perform. The good news is that it’s relatively easy to treat with orthotics and by doing plantar fasciitis exercises 2 to 3 times a day.

Plantar Fasciitis Exercises

Runner’s Stretch: While turning your body to the side, point both feet directly forward. Start extending your spine while pressing down with your back foot. Make sure you do not turn the back foot outwards, as this will disengage the calf muscle. Then you’ll bend down slightly while pressing down the heel and taking a deep breath. The Runner’s Stretch gives a good stretch of the Achilles tendon which is important in alleviating heel pain.

Toe Stretch: Take a seat and grab your big toe and pull it towards you gently. Hold this position for 30 seconds before releasing. Repeat 2-3 more times to fully stretch it out.

Towel Stretch: Place your heel into a towel, straighten your leg and begin to pull back. This will stretch along the plantar fascia and the underside of your foot. Hold it for 30 seconds and then repeat.

Consider Orthotics to Treat Your Heel Pain

Custom orthotics are custom-designed shoe inserts. They are designed to fit your feet specifically. Orthotics help restore balance by distributing the pressure in your feet and ankles more evenly. They will help correct many of the issues that cause heel pain, including how you stand and difficulties while you run. All of this is done by correcting the underlying conditions that can lead to constant heel pain.

Orthotics are especially beneficial for athletes who are constantly moving. Since custom orthotics are designed for you, they can help prevent injury and heel pain before it begins.
